Course Objectives/Description:

This course aims at building upon the basics established in the first year of language learning. The course will still cover the four fundamental skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing but students will now be able to make longer, more descriptive sentences not restricted to themselves. This course shall cover the past and future tenses to enable students to talk about their history and future projects. The students now fall under the category of A2 students as per the language levels defined by the Common European Framework of References for languages.

Course Outcomes:

  1. By the end of the course, the following is expected of the students:
  2. Listening Comprehension – To be able to understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of personal relevance like social media, shopping and daily activities.
  3. Reading Comprehension - To be able to read short, simple texts and find specific, predictable information in simple everyday material such as posters, advertisements, prospectuses, menus and timetables
  4. Spoken interaction and production - To be able to use a series of phrases and sentences to describe briefly one’s family and living conditions.
  5. Writing - To be able to write short messages

Brief description of modules/ Main modules:

This course shall continue with part 2 of the prescribed textbook and workbook, meant for A2 students. This book is divided into 9 units containing 3 lessons each of which this course proposes to complete the first 4 units. It is important to supplement he book with documents taken from other books designed specifically for language learners as well as other authentic documents, videos and songs taken from the internet in order to keep the class interactive and interesting.

Assessment Details with weights:

  1. Class participation and attendance - 10%
  2. Class tests/worksheets - 30%
  3. Presentation - 20%
  4. Oral exam - 10%
  5. End semester exam - 30%
